Yuletide 2014
Dear Yuletide Writer,
First, thank you. I know I'll love whatever you come up with. Second, I apologize if my prompts/ideas aren't detailed enough. I like Yuletide because of the fun of participating and the excitement of receiving a just-for-me fic. I'm not here because there's a specific fic idea that I've always wanted to read--usually when I have an idea like that, I just write it myself!
Please follow your muse (or plot bunnies, whichever you prefer) and write the story you feel compelled to write. I'll give you some ideas on what I like and don't like, but Optional Details Are Optional.
Do Not Wants: rape or noncon, animal abuse/death, major character death, a/b/o, mpreg, underage sex.
General Likes: femslash, complex female characters, gen, het, adventures, bittersweet endings, casefic, found families, ust, dubcon is okay (I like sex pollen/fuck-or-die scenarios)..
I'll probably add to this and the DNW section as I think of more things. Feel free to check back or not. Yuletide should be fun, not stressful.
She-Hulk
Jennifer Walters
I'm dying for more She-Hulk fic. There's so little of it, and I just don't get it--She-Hulk is such a great, fun character.
I only requested Jen, but you can include any of the other characters--or crossover with other Marvel characters!--if you want. My headcanon for Jen is that she's controlled by fear. She lets society dictate who she is and how she acts when she's Jennifer Walters. She-Hulk is who she'd be if she didn't give a crap what anyone else thinks--her true self. I love that she drinks Thor under the table, puts Tony Stark in his place, dances and flirts with whomever she wants, sleeps with whomever she wants, and still manages to be a bad-ass lawyer.
Basically, I want to read about Jen and her alter ego being awesome. An adventure, casefic, a character study...
If you want to write shippy stuff, I don't really ship her with anyone in particular, so you can pair her up with the person you like best.
Gotham
I requested "any" characters for Gotham because I love the concept and design of the show more than any individual character. I love how it's gritty and kind of noirish. I love the style. I love the moral questions posed to James Gordon and how he's constantly walking on a tightrope between doing what's right in his head and what's right according to Gotham--and that if he missteps, it could mean his life as well as the lives of people he cares for.
I like the younger cast and the glimpse we got of Ivy. Maybe she and Selena can team up--a mentor/mentee relationship, since Selena has been on her own for so long and knows how to live on the streets/take care of herself. If you do write about the younger cast, please, please do not include sex unless you age them up. Adult Ivy/Selena--great! Show-age Ivy/Selena...no thank you. That hits one of my squicks.
Fish Mooney fascinates me. What is her back story? How did she get to this point? What did she go through that makes her willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants? Has she always been ruthless, or is it just a matter of survival for her? If you want to explore how she got where she is...fantastic!
Barbara doesn't interest me that much yet, mostly because we haven't really been given the chance to know her. We've caught some glimpses of her past, and those glimpses seem much more interesting than her present. Femslash with her and Renee would be cool--maybe some scenes from their previous relationship?
Or if you want to write casefic that ties all the character together in one investigation, that would be awesome. (Bonus points if you sneak in some DC "easter eggs." :) )
So...I realize I've left out a lot of the characters here. That doesn't mean I don't want stories with them in it. It's just because this section is long as hell already. And like I said--I love the world as a whole more than any individual character, so if you get the "feel" close to the show, I'll be happy.
Scott & Bailey
Gill, Rachel, Janet
I found this show on Netflix and wound up mainlining the first three series in about two days. I love the complex, layered female characters and their relationships with each other. I love that Rachel, as fucked up and messy as she is in her personal life, is great at her job. I love that Gill is iron-willed and hard-edged but still able to toss back a drink and have a laugh with her coworkers. I love that Janet has this deceptively soft-spoken, gentle demeanor that camouflages what a BAMF she is.
I love when the women work together but hate it when they fight. Conflict between them is fine, but I don't like it when the characters are out-and-out angry at each other or not speaking with each other. I would prefer gen for this, but ODAO. Casefic, slice-of-life, character exploration...basically, I want to feel like I'm reading something that could be part of the show. Maybe a missing scene? (Note: I have the first two books based on the series but I haven't read them yet.)
If you want a more specific plot, I was toying around with the idea of writing this myself, but I don't really have the time right now: the body of Rachel's ex, Sean, is found and she's a suspect. How do each of the characters deal? How do they handle the investigation? Does Rachel investigate on her own to clear her name? Or you could go the opposite, if you think that's too close to the Nick storyline--Janet's ex-husband (or maybe Andy) is murdered and she's the suspect.
If you think that's complete shit, just ignore it and write the story you'd like to read. If you'd like to include Julie or any of the other side characters, please do!
Guardians of the Galaxy
When it comes to GotG, I love the sheer fun of the movie. I love the found family aspect of it. I chose "any" characters, because what I'd really like is a good adventure that includes the whole team. It can be gen or shippy, your preference.
I actually thought Drax and Gamora had more chemistry than Gamora and Peter, so if you want to match them up, I won't argue! On the other hand, I also really love the messed-up dynamic of Gamora and Nebula's relationship. Are they sisters? Enemies? If you want to get slashy with them, I wouldn't mind...just please downplay the sister aspect of their relationship if you go that direction. I'd like it to be non-incesty if possible.
Perhaps you could explore what it was like for Nebula and Gamora while growing up...or Peter's life with Yondu. What about how Rocket and Groot met? Have they ever come into contact with Peter before? Maybe they were after the same artifact/bounty before and didn't even realize they were competing with each other--a kind of sliding doors in outer space.
I'm sorry if this isn't helpful. Basically, I love the fun, irreverent tone of the movie. I like how the characters are each damaged in some huge way but still manage to come together (and have a dance off). If you can capture some of the fun of the movie in fic form, I'll love it no matter which characters you choose/what type of story you write.
Whitechapel
Fix it, please! Whitechapel's last series was insane. I love that they just basically said to hell with it and went full-on supernatural...but I hate that we didn't get any answers! I'm still pissed that it was canceled right when it was getting so good.
I want to know what happens next. What's in the future for these characters? Does Joe continue as a DI after the bus crash? Or does he decide to go become a nice, safe accountant somewhere? Do he and Kent ever go on their date? Perhaps commiserate together over drinks or in bed?
How does what happened affect Ray and Buchanan? Is Kent still going dark? What about Meg? If you can pick up where the show left off and fix things/wrap things up, that would be amazing. Chandler/Kent is the only ship I have for Whitechapel. You don't need to include it, though, if you don't want to.
The Adventures of Pete & Pete
Please don't hate me. I have no idea what I want from a Pete & Pete fic...I just know that I want it. It was one of my favorite shows growing up and there's something magical about it. It feels like childhood in some nebulous way I can't explain. I realize that's not helpful at all, and I'm probably destined to be linked on _coal for having the most useless letter ever, but... I'm hoping that if you offered to write a Pete & Pete fic, it's because you have some idea for a story or at least the ability to come up with one. Please write the story you'd like to read instead of worrying about the one I want.
Here's what I know I don't want: underage sex, character death, a sad ending.
What I know I do want: something weird, unexpected and true to the show.
I said it earlier, and I feel it bears repeating: Yuletide is about having fun, not stressing out. If you read my letter and want to run screaming because it's so terrible, just ignore me and write something you'll enjoy instead.
