Yuletide recs, part one
Jan. 3rd, 2014 04:40 amThere were so many amazing Yuletide stories this year. I'm still slowly working my way through them. Here are the first few gems and why you should take a few minutes to read (and leave kudos/comment on) them.
Whitechapel (TV)
My first two Whitechapel recs happened to be my gifts this year. But that's not why I've recced them. They're on my recs list because they're awesome and everyone should read them.

Summary: When Chandler attempts to comfort Kent after the loss of a loved one, he reveals more about himself than he planned.
Why you should read it: dreamer_98 nailed the characterization. This IS Joe Chandler and it IS Emerson Kent. It has (emotional) hurt/comfort and cuddles between the two of them. It's sweet, emotional and yet still Whitechapel. It's just a perfect little scene between two characters who don't necessarily find it easy to connect, but who manage to do so here.
Room for Two by dreamer_98
M/M
Summary: Joe Chandler was used to sleeping alone.
Why you should read it: Do you want to be happy? Have a warm, fuzzy feeling inside? Then read this. It's short--just under 400 words--and manages to answer the question "what would the morning after be like for Joe and Kent?" in a really satisfying way. Though in this case, the morning after is not quite what it seems. Even though Whitechapel is a dark show, this manages to be light and fluffy...but with an edge of Whitechapel darkness just beneath. Just because Joe and Kent are together, that doesn't mean Joe has fewer issues...and dreamer_98 managed to tie all of that together.

Summary: After the deaths of Jimmy and Johnny Kray, Chandler and Miles talk about what to do next.
Why you should read it: This is a perfect added scene. It feels real, as if it actually could be part of the episode. The characters are true to the show, and the writing is really solid. There are some nice little bits of humor there -- in Ray's interactions with his wife, Judy, and in his thoughts about finding someone for Joe. The best part is the solid friendship between Joe and Ray.
